Follow the Arrests, Not the Slogans
Trump sold this as a hunt for violent criminals. Now look at who ICE actually holds.
As of April 2026, 70.8% of people in ICE detention had no criminal conviction at all, per Syracuse University's TRAC data. Only about 5% had violent convictions. Nearly two-thirds of men removed in Trump's second term had no criminal record.

The Human Reality They Won't Look At
Haitian immigrants alone held over 100,000 health care jobs in 2021. They staff hospitals, nursing homes, and clinics from Miami to Indianapolis.
TPS holders have U.S. citizen children, mortgages, and businesses. Alito's majority knows that. It decided none of it mattered enough to hold Trump back.

This ruling is the template for unwinding TPS for up to 1.3 million people from 17 countries — including Venezuela, Somalia, Ethiopia, and South Sudan.
The opinion doesn't even check whether DHS followed the law in reviewing conditions before ending protection. It declares the question unreviewable. That is not conservative restraint. That is the Court signing on.

Susie Wiles and the Nerve Center
His defenders point to chief of staff Susie Wiles as proof of moderation. In Vanity Fair interviews, she described Trump as having "an alcoholic's personality," a man who believes there is nothing he cannot do. Trump agreed he has a "possessive and addictive type personality."
That is the personality now holding a Supreme Court-certified license to revoke legal status from entire nationalities.

Call It What It Is
We are watching institutional white supremacy in a suit and tie, laundered through legal phrasing and sold under "border security."
The Haitians and Syrians facing deportation are nurses, mechanics, teachers, parents. They came legally. They worked, paid taxes, raised families, and stayed. If we don't say that out loud, in plain words, we are just helping them hide behind footnotes while they push people of color out of the country.
